This book tells the story of Life in Hawai'i during World War II. Hawai'i was both a home front and a war zone, the only American territory to have that distinction. Full of great illustrations with many rare "never before seen" images, this book is a wonderful collector's item.

Under constant threat of losing their land to corporate agriculture and government ownership, Native Hawaiians in Papakolea petitioned Congress to protect their homesteads (1920). Their determination to keep their culture alive is told by the few surviving elders. Companion film viewer's guide available.
